Organizing conferences is hard. It’s usually a multi-month effort, with lots of variables along the way. They are also often organized by many busy people who sometimes don’t talk enough to each other.

In such environment where you think about your conference almost all the time, it’s easy to miss explaining something obvious, like what the WiFI SSID is or that people should bring their own extension cords since there are not many plugs in the room.

To avoid this UsableConference.com provides guidelines and recommendations that conference organizers can go through they check if they’ve though of everything.

The idea is that it’s a community resource which will expand with time as we figure out what should be part of every conference.

Buzzwords and hash tags

UsableConference.com is just one name. The other ways to think about the project are “Hacker/Geek Friendly conference” and “Conference 2.0″.

For now the hashtag we’re using is #usableconference but if you can think of something shorther, we’d love to hear.
